Northeastern U.S. electricity markets are experiencing a bout of elevated pricing volatility as December temperatures swing from cold to warm to cold again. So far in December, the New England and New York power markets have seen the highest daily average Day-Ahead market clearing prices since the January 2024 cold weather event. The higher power prices have been driven primarily by higher spot natural gas prices.
