Power Market Update | 12.04.2024

Electricity markets faced the first cold snap of the winter season this week, resulting in higher demand and volatile pricing.

U.S. electricity markets faced the first cold snap of the 2024-25 winter season, leading to higher power loads amid elevated demand for space heating. The colder temperatures pressured spot natural gas prices higher which translated into higher day-ahead and real-time pricing in affected markets.

Near-term temperature forecasts point to a return to a more mild temperature pattern as the month progresses, however, suggesting a return to a more subdued pricing environment.
