Natural gas futures reverse higher ahead of renewed cold risk.
- Natural gas futures rebounded last week after temperature forecasts shifted suddenly colder for the upcoming week; January 2026 traded as low as $3.80 per MMBtu on Monday before finishing the week at $4.37 per MMBtu.
- Unseasonable cold is expected to move through the eastern half of the country over the next 10 days, ending a stretch of exceptionally mild weather in late December.
- With no government storage report issued last week, the market is still awaiting data for the week ended December 19.
- Spot gas and power prices were lower across the board last week amid mild temperatures and light demand over the Christmas holiday; volatility should return in the coming days as colder temperatures set in.
