Natural gas futures plunge lower, reversing early-week gains.
- November NYMEX fell $0.22 to settle at $3.11 per MMBtu, reversing sharply midweek as warmer forecasts and a larger-than-expected storage build pressured the front of the curve.
- Storage inventories rose 80 Bcf, maintaining a slim surplus to year-ago levels, while lagging the five-year average for the third straight week and trimming that surplus to 157 Bcf.
- Real-time power prices were mixed last week, with NYISO and ISO-NE posting solid gains, while prices elsewhere were little changed as cooling demand faded.
- Spot gas prices collapsed in the Permian, averaging below –$5.00 per MMBtu and dragging the South region average down to just $0.34 per MMBtu, even as other southern hubs were steady.
