Gas futures continued lower last week as the storage cushion expanded.
• Natural gas futures continued to decline, with the September 2026 NYMEX contract falling $0.09 to $2.66 per MMBtu and Winter 2026–27 dropping to $3.44.
• The EIA reported a 33-Bcf storage injection, lifting inventories to 3,117 Bcf. The surplus to the five-year average widened to 195 Bcf, while stocks moved to within 12 Bcf of year-ago levels.
• Power demand remained elevated, with ERCOT load continuing to track above the historical range and Northeast demand surging late in the week amid very hot weather.
• Forward power markets were broadly weaker, led by sharp declines in ERCOT and CAISO, while PJM was the notable exception with gains across both tracked delivery periods.
