Natural Gas Storage: +87 Bcf
Build comes in higher than expectations and historical benchmarks.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported a weekly injection of 87 billion cubic feet (Bcf) into Lower 48 natural gas storage inventories for the week ending June 26, 2026 (Link). Total inventories now stand at 2,922 Bcf, 23 Bcf (0.8%) below year-ago levels and 175 Bcf (6.4%) above the 2021-2025 average for the same week.
Today’s EIA storage report showed a build that was bearish by any measure, exceeding both consensus market expectations and historical benchmarks for the same week. This marked the first weekly injection since April to come in stronger than the corresponding week in 2025, cutting the deficit to last year by more than half. The build also outpaced the five-year average injection of 64 Bcf, expanding the surplus to 175 Bcf, which is the highest since November.
