The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported a weekly injection of 71 Billion Cubic Feet (Bcf) in Lower 48 natural gas storage inventories for the week ending September 5, 2025 (Link). Total inventories now stand at 3,343 Bcf, 38 Bcf (1.1%) below year-ago levels and 188 Bcf (6.0%) above the 2020-2024 average for the same week.
Storage levels increased by 71 Bcf during the week ended September 5, marking the second straight net injection to outpace both last year and the five-year average for the same week. This two-week stretch follows a series of reports in August that showed natural gas stocks plateauing relative to historical benchmarks, bucking the trend that has been in place for the majority of the summer. With today’s reported build nearly doubling the corresponding week in 2024, inventories are now just 38 Bcf behind year-ago levels, which is the narrowest deficit since January 3.
