The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported a weekly injection of 57 Billion Cubic Feet (Bcf) in Lower 48 natural gas storage inventories for the week ending April 4, 2025 (Link). Total inventories now stand at 1,830 Bcf, 450 Bcf (19.7%) below year-ago levels and 40 Bcf (2.1%) below the 2020-2024 average for the same week.
The fast start to the 2025 injection season continued, with a 57-Bcf storage build announced for the week ended April 4. This marks the fourth consecutive net injection during a week that would typically feature the first storage build of the season. Last year during the same week, inventories increased by 16 Bcf, while the five-year average showed a build of 17 Bcf, with today’s build reducing the deficit to each benchmark by 41 and 40 Bcf, respectively. Inventories were as much as 628 Bcf behind year-ago inventories in early March and have reduced that deficit by 178 Bcf in the four weeks since.
