Injection comes in as expected, outpacing historical benchmarks.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported a weekly injection of 55 Billion Cubic Feet (Bcf) in Lower 48 natural gas storage inventories for the week ending August 29, 2025 (Link).  Total inventories now stand at 3,272 Bcf, 73 Bcf (2.2%) below year-ago levels and 173 Bcf (5.6%) above the 2020-2024 average for the same week.

Natural gas inventories increased by 55 Bcf during the final full week of August. The build came in much stronger than the year-ago and five-year-average number, ending a streak of two consecutive week of relatively small injections. The deficit to year-ago inventories was trimmed by 39 Bcf, while the surplus to the five-year average widened by 19 Bcf. This report helped ease the impact of mid-August heat and resumed the summer-long trend of mostly robust storage growth.
