Natural Gas Storage: +55 Bcf
Brief heat wave leads to the smallest storage build since early-April
The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported a weekly injection of 55 Billion Cubic Feet (Bcf) in Lower 48 natural gas storage inventories for the week ending June 27, 2025 (Link). Total inventories now stand at 2,953 Bcf, 176 Bcf (5.6%) below year-ago levels and 173 Bcf (6.2%) above the 2020-2024 average for the same week.
The 55-Bcf injection for the final full week of June reflected the tightest market conditions so far this summer, marking a stark departure from the 95-120 Bcf builds of the previous nine weeks. Intense heat in the East and Midwest boosted power generation demand and sharply reduced the volume of natural gas available for storage. Still, despite being the smallest weekly build since early in the injection season, it outpaced the year-ago figure of 35 Bcf and fell only modestly short of the five-year average of 61 Bcf.
