The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported a weekly injection of 46 Billion Cubic Feet (Bcf) in Lower 48 natural gas storage inventories for the week ending July 11, 2025 (Link).  Total inventories now stand at 3,052 Bcf, 159 Bcf (4.9%) below year-ago levels and 178 Bcf (6.2%) above the 2020-2024 average for the same week.

Storage inventories resumed the trend of growing at a faster rate than year-ago and the five-year average with a reported 46-Bcf injection for the week ended July 11. With the market nearing the traditional peak of summer demand, this represented the smallest storage build since the injection season was ramping up in April. The same week in 2024 was especially hot across the country and saw elevated power burn numbers, leading to a build of just 18 Bcf. Today’s report narrowed the deficit to 2024 inventories to 156 Bcf, which is the closest that stocks have been to that benchmark since January. The build also outpaced the five-year average of 41 Bcf, slightly expanding that surplus.
