The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported a weekly injection of 37 Billion Cubic Feet (Bcf) in Lower 48 natural gas storage inventories for the week ending March 21, 2025 (Link). Total inventories now stand at 1,744 Bcf, 557 Bcf (24.2%) below year-ago levels and 122 Bcf (6.5%) below the 2020-2024 average for the same week.
Natural gas inventories grew by 37 Bcf during the third week of March, which marks the fourth largest March injection on record and the single largest in nearly 13 years. The sizeable build contrasted with net withdrawals in both year-ago and five-year average inventories, reducing the deficit to both benchmarks considerably. The report week was exceptionally mild, significantly limiting natural gas needs from the residential and commercial sectors and opening up additional gas supplies to be added to inventories.
