Natural Gas Storage: +36 Bcf
Injection comes in stronger than expected, while outpacing the five-year average.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported a weekly injection of 36 billion cubic feet (Bcf) into Lower 48 natural gas storage inventories for the week ending August 7, 2026 (Link). Total inventories now stand at 3,153 Bcf, 25 Bcf (0.8%) below year-ago levels and 198 Bcf (6.7%) above the 2021-2025 average for the same week.
This morning’s storage report showed a larger-than-expected 36-Bcf build into underground inventories. The injection came in slightly stronger than the five-year average of 33 Bcf, outpacing that benchmark for the fourth consecutive week and seventh of the past eight. Since bottoming out at 138 Bcf as of May 29, the surplus to the five-year average has expanded to 198 Bcf over the past 11 weeks. The build came in light compared to the same week in 2025, which saw an increase of 49 Bcf.
