Natural Gas Storage: +35 Bcf
Net build flips inventories back to a surplus to the five-year average.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported a weekly injection of 35 billion cubic feet (Bcf) from Lower 48 natural gas storage inventories for the week ending March 13, 2026 (Link). Total inventories now stand at 1,883 Bcf, 177 Bcf (10.4%) above year-ago levels and 47 Bcf (2.6%) above the 2021-2025 average for the same week.
Inventories posted a net increase for the first time in 2026 during the week ended March 13. The 35-Bcf build effectively replenished the majority of the 38 Bcf that was drawn from storage during the prior week, while also flipping the 17 Bcf deficit to the five-year average into a surplus for the first time since the January cold snap. The same week in 2025 saw stocks decline by 1 Bcf, so today’s data widened the surplus to the year-ago benchmark to 177 Bcf.
