Natural Gas Storage: -166 Bcf

Inventories fall below the five-year average for the first time in 8 months.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported a weekly withdrawal of 166 billion cubic feet (Bcf) in Lower 48 natural gas storage inventories for the week ending December 19, 2025 (Link).  Total inventories now stand at 3,413 Bcf, 129 Bcf (3.6%) below year-ago levels and 24 Bcf (0.7%) below the 2020-2024 average for the same week.

Natural gas storage levels declined by 166 Bcf during the week ended December 19, marking the third consecutive outsized storage draw. Inventories fell by a total of 510 Bcf from November 28 through December 19 compared to a five-year average draw of 295 Bcf and a year-ago draw of 399 Bcf over that same stretch. As a result, inventories now sit nearly 130 Bcf behind 2024 levels and flipped from a 191-Bcf surplus to a 24-Bcf deficit relative to the five-year average.
