The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported a weekly injection of 16 billion cubic feet (Bcf) into Lower 48 natural gas storage inventories for the week ending August 14, 2026 (Link). Total inventories now stand at 3,169 Bcf, 28 Bcf (0.9%) below year-ago levels and 185 Bcf (6.2%) above the 2021-2025 average for the same week.
Today’s EIA report showed a net injection of 16 Bcf into underground inventories. The net build reflected injections across the East and Midwest, while inventories in the Mountain, Pacific, and South Central regions were drawn lower. Storage growth for the week lagged both historical benchmarks, coming in 3 Bcf below the corresponding week in 2025 and 13 Bcf below the five-year average. This marked only the third week since the end of May that the surplus versus the five-year average did not expand.
