Natural Gas Storage: +107 Bcf
Weekly storage change registers first triple digit build since 2023, but falls short of expectations in delayed data release.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported a weekly injection of 107 Billion Cubic Feet (Bcf) in Lower 48 natural gas storage inventories for the week ending April 25, 2025 (Link). Total inventories now stand at 2,041 Bcf, 435 Bcf (17.6%) below year-ago levels and 5 Bcf (0.2%) above the 2020-2024 average for the same week.
Natural gas storage additions increased materially last week, with the EIA’s report showing a 107-Bcf injection following the previous week’s robust 88-Bcf build. Today’s report was delayed from the usual release time of 10:30am Eastern to 2:00pm Eastern due a third-party software issue, according to some news outlets. The build was the largest weekly addition into underground inventories since the week ending May 26, 2023 and helped to push total storage levels above the 5-year average benchmark for the first time since the week ending January 17, 2025. The deficit to year-ago levels narrowed, but remains elevated at 435 Bcf, or 17.6%.
