Natural gas futures recovered modestly on Tuesday, snapping the recent string of daily losses that pushed winter pricing to fresh five-year lows. The December 2026 NYMEX contract gained 4 cents to settle near $2.90 per MMBtu, while the balance-of-Winter 2026-27 strip advanced by the same amount to $2.94. Summer 2027 added 3 cents to finish near $2.74, with gains diminishing further out the curve. Despite Tuesday’s rebound, December futures remain 11 cents lower on the week and 45 cents below month-ago levels, reflecting the broader bearish momentum that has dominated trading in recent weeks.

The fundamental outlook remains largely unchanged, with mild weather forecasts continuing to limit heating demand expectations through at least the first half of November. However, data this week shows domestic production retreating below 110 Bcf per day. While this is preliminary and subject to revision, and sustained downturn in output could reduce the end-of-season storage peak and ultimately prove supportive for pricing.

Production slipping under 110 Bcf/d is the part I'd watch. If that holds, the storage peak gets trimmed and winter strip at $2.94 looks like it's close to a floor.
