Natural gas prices moved lower on Monday, with the November 2026 NYMEX contract giving up 5 cents to finish near $3.17 per MMBtu. The contract dipped as low as $3.09 early in the session before stabilizing over the course of the day. The full Winter 2026-27 strip declined 3 cents to settle just below $3.40 per MMBtu, while contracts further out the curve edged modestly higher.
This week is expected to bring a significant shift in temperature patterns. Much warmer-than-normal weather is forecast across key areas of the Midwest and East in the coming days, but cooler-than-normal conditions are expected to develop in these regions by the weekend. While this unseasonable cold is expected to be short-lived, any forecast changes suggesting a more sustained period of sustained, meaningful cold during the second half of October would likely get the market’s attention.
