NYMEX natural gas futures were mixed on Friday, with the October 2026 contract adding a penny to finish near $2.91 per MMBtu while pricing further out the curve softened. Winter 2026-27 fell another 2 cents to settle near $3.29 per MMBtu, extending its slide to fresh multi-year lows. The prompt month remains supported just below $3.00, but that strength has not carried meaningfully into the winter strip.
Fundamentally, the market continues to balance lingering late-season heat against otherwise tame conditions. Forecasts remain warmer than normal across much of the country, helping sustain power-sector demand and limit storage injections, but temperatures are still trending lower on a seasonal basis. That backdrop has kept the front of the curve supported while doing little to reverse the broader weakness in winter pricing and beyond.
