Natural Gas Market Note | 08.07.2026
Futures firm into the weekend, gaining back a portion of recent losses.
Natural gas futures finished the week on a firmer note, with gains extending across the curve through Summer 2028. The September 2026 contract added $0.02 to settle near $2.66 per MMBtu, while Winter 2026–27 rose $0.05 to $3.44. Despite Friday’s rebound, most contracts still ended lower on the week, with the prompt-month contract and winter strip each down $0.09.
Forecasts continue to show a final stretch of intense summer heat over the next several days, but the market remains focused on the milder pattern expected beyond that window and a healthy storage outlook. Inventories have increasingly separated from the five-year average, easing concerns about supply adequacy heading into the shoulder season and limiting the market’s response to near-term heat.
