Natural Gas Market Note | 08.03.2026
Prices gain modest ground to start the week.
Natural gas futures started the week on a positive note, with the September 2026 contract posting modest gains after trading within a 10-cent daily range. The contract added $0.03 to settle near $2.78 per MMBtu. Gains extended across the curve through Summer 2028. While nearby deliveries remain significantly lower over the past month, contracts for Summer 2027 and beyond are flat to slightly lower compared with levels seen in early July.
Widespread warmer-than-normal temperatures are expected throughout the two-week period. The hottest weather on a population-weighted basis is anticipated late this week and over the weekend. Given the timing of the heat wave and forecasts showing moderating temperature anomalies beginning next week, the upcoming weekend will likely be the warmest of the balance of the season on a population-weighted basis.
