Natural Gas Market Note | 07.31.2026
Futures edge lower in quiet trading ahead of the weekend.
Natural gas prices edged lower on Friday, closing out a quiet session ahead of the weekend. September NYMEX settled at $2.75 per MMBtu, down a penny on the day and $0.14 for the week, while most of the forward curve posted similarly modest declines. Prices ended the month down across the board, with most of the losses focused on the front of the forward curve. Balance of summer and winter pricing goes into August sitting near multi-year lows.
There were no major shifts in the weather outlook or broader fundamentals to drive the market. Despite widespread heat, traders remain comfortable with storage inventories and softer LNG export demand, leaving prices in consolidation mode after the sharp losses earlier in the week.
