Natural Gas Market Note | 06.02.2026
Futures pricing recovers early losses to finish down only modestly.
Natural gas futures finished modestly lower on Monday, although prices recovered from deeper losses earlier in the session. The July 2026 contract settled at $3.17 per MMBtu, down about 1 cent on the day, while the balance of summer slipped 2 cents to $3.18. Winter 2026–27 also gave up 2 cents to finish near $3.86, leaving the front of the curve still well above last week’s levels despite today’s softer close.
Weather forecasts were little changed overnight, with above-normal temperatures still expected across key areas but without the kind of intense heat that would materially tighten balances in the near term. That leaves market dynamics mostly unchanged, as warmer weather is supportive, but not yet hot enough to drive a major move higher. For now, the curve remains stronger since this point last week, with strong seasonal support likely helping keep pricing propped up as peak summer approaches.
