Natural Gas Market Note | 05.08.2026
Natural gas futures end the week lower amid relatively quiet trading.
NYMEX natural gas settled lower on the week, with contracts out through 2028 all falling relative to last Friday’s settlement. Futures for near-term delivery were lower on the day, while Summer 2027 and Winter 2027/28 ended the day slightly higher. All told, the week was fairly quiet with the June 2026 prompt-month contract registering the narrowest weekly trading range of the last three weeks.
Futures started the day on a stronger note but began to lose steam shortly after the traditional pit session open at 9:00am Eastern and continued to trend lower throughout the day. From a demand perspective, the market is now focused squarely on potential cooling demand as the 6-10 and 11-15 day temperature outlooks have shifted to an above-normal temperature pattern.
