NYMEX natural gas finishes lower amid quiet trading.
Natural gas futures prices ended lower today, with the April 2026 contract falling by $0.11 to settle at $3.02 per MMBtu. The rest of the Summer 2026 strip saw similar declines while deferred deliveries were only slightly lower relative to Friday’s settlement.
Natural gas futures pricing trended steadily lower throughout the trading session, with no fundamental support from near-term weather forecasts. Following a brief cold snap impacting key Midwest and East consuming regions, temperatures are expected to turn to a more normal pattern which will likely be viewed as neutral by the market given the time of year.
While natural gas production remains strong, albeit down from recent highs, lower pipeline imports from Canada combined with near-record LNG feedgas demand have helped to push Net Supply approximately 2 Bcf per day below year-ago levels (chart below).
